2) The History of Plate Tectonics slide deck goo.gl/VkYKQR 3) Daily Summaries for the week due tomorrow (should be four, 4x 25 points= 100 points total) 4) We will be in the media center TOMORROW for a lesson on how to do research with Ms. Morgan. 5) Candy Bar lab is on MONDAY! Bring your own candy bar (Milky way preferred). 9/26/2018 0 Comments Wednesday 9/26/20181) Discussed new evidence for our EQ
EQ: How do processes inside Earth shape the world as we know it? Evidence: The core heats up the mantle. The mantle rises, cools and then sinks again. This is called a convection current. We can observe convection currents in Mrs. Thomasian's lava lamps. The light bulb inside the lamp heats the wax, which then rises to the top. Once it gets to the top it starts to slowly sink to the bottom. 2) Puzzle activity- compared how the pieces of the puzzle fit together like the pieces of crust 3) Plate Boundaries notes foldable Homework: Daily Summary (will be collected Friday 9/28/2018) Candy Bar Lab Monday Oct. 1 (BYO candy bar - no nuts!) Binder Check Wednesday October 10 9/25/2018 0 Comments Tuesday 9/25/20181) We look our Earth Layers test yesterday.
2) Density Block lab should have already been turned in. I have graded the ones given to me and they should be in Power School. If you do not see a grade it is because you did NOT turn in the lab! Turn it in before I put a 50 in the grade book! 3) Starting Continental Drift/Plate tectonics unit. The pre-assessment will be tomorrow (Wednesday). 4) Candy Bar lab is on Monday Oct. 1. 9/20/2018 0 Comments Thursday 9/20/2018What we did today...
1) Went over the study guide as a class, split up the questions and answered them on white boards at our tables, then shared with the entire class. 2) Watched Brain Pop "Plate Tectonics" 3) Bring devices tomorrow for KAHOOT! 4) Test is THIS MONDAY. Your only homework is to STUDY!!!!!!! Use your STUDY GUIDE!!!!! 5) Candy Bar lab on Oct. 1st (also a Monday). Please, only nut-free candy bars that have a squishy inside. Examples- Milky Way, Three Musketeers, Twix, Tootsie Roll, Mounds (not Almond Joy), Peppermint Patty, Airhead. Here are the Study Guide notes from Core 4 (will work for anyone who forgot their study guide) 9/14/2018 0 Comments Friday 9/14/2018So it has been a while... what we did this past week
1) Review Earth Layers vocabulary (inner core, outer core, mantle, crust, asthenosphere, lithosphere) 2) Liquid Layers demo and discussion about density (more dense=heavier, sinks to the bottom. less dense=lighter, rises to top) 3) Sink or Float Density lab started Wednesday, will wrap up on Monday. Here is the plan for next week: Monday- Finish Sink or Float lab, introduce convection currents Tuesday- Convection Currents demo, DIY lava lamp Wednesday- No School (Yom Kippur) Thursday- Earth Layers review (Kahoot- bring devices!) Friday- Earth Layers test What has gotten shifted to the following week: - Continental Drift/Plate Tectonics pre-assessment - Continental Drift/Plate Tectonics notes - Plate Boundaries notes - Sea-Floor Spreading model -Candy Bar lab (plate tectonics) I will be checking Daily Summaries for 9/10-9/12 on Monday. All current grades are up-to-date on PowerSchool. To answer your questions, here is the grade breakdown for the Daily Summaries. In an ideal week you should have 4 summaries (Monday night- Thursday night). Each summary is worth 25 points for a total of 100 points per week for daily summaries. If we have a four day week, you will have 3 summaries. Each worth 33.33 so that you can still earn a total of 100 points for the week. This past week we had a three day week due to weather. I still want you to complete three summaries BECAUSE Thursday was a last minute school cancellation and you were assigned a daily summary when Thursday was still an Early Release. Hope that clears up any confusion! - T 9/5/2018 0 Comments Wednesday 9/5/20181) Pre-assessment for Layers of the Earth unit
